WHAT'S OLD OCTOBER 2024
Flashback to the early 2000's, we loaded up a couple of trucks full of camping gear and racing enthusiasts and headed for the Halloween Classic at Norwalk Raceway in Ohio. Great racing, cool cars and those who can decorate their trailers and pit boxes for Halloween so the kids can trick or treat. We will have to get there again. Here are a couple of pictures. WHAT'S OLD SEPTEMBER 2024
Back in June 2018 we held a show at the Sun Parlor Home in Leamington for the residents. The stories and smiles are priceless and we are proud that our local car community supports this event. Here are some pictures: WHAT'S OLD AUGUST 2024. I searched through the old pictures to find an old picture of us vending in Bothwell - maybe the first year when we rented a van and slept in our canopy - but I could not find one. I did find these to share with you. Bothwell car show. First car in line is our Nova Wagon. This 62 C10 had a big influence on Andrew's 64 build. Sarnia show on the Waterfront- beautiful park , Great show. we lost a hubcap on the way home from this one. Seacliff Park long time ago.
What's Old July 2024.
Lots going on lately - shows in La Salle, Leamington and Wheatley. They remind me of our early days of car shows - on the road most weekends either local or 6-24 hours away. I dug out the old scrap book - you can tell about how old the pictures are by which camera took the pictures. We started out with a Kodak instant camera until Polaroid challenged them on copyright and Kodak bought it back and we bought a nice Minolta. Then everything went digital and now Michelle's new phone takes better pictures than my digital. - progress- anyway here are some oldies from early 80's at local shows. I wish I could remember more details - we should have dated everything. What's Old May 2024
Nostalgia is an interesting thing. We enjoyed owning a van back in the 80's. It had an adventure filled life with trips to Berea Ohio for the 1983 Hot Rod Nationals {- as a spectator - too new to enter} , Cedar Point and the Barrie swap meet. It also loved Drive in movies and concerts at PINE KNOB. When it was done serving as an event vehicle and daily driver "the van" was sent to "retire" on Pelee Island where it lived a less adventurous life carting cottagers and mopeds and gas cans from the airport or dock to the cottage or Hotel on holidays and weekends. Years later we are sort of looking for another van - nostalgia and function all in one. What's Old April 2024 Nova wagon with red interior - came from Georgia so we called her "Georgia".
Sold it and built "Phoenix" - she was closer to the road and came from Iowa. What's Old March 2024 Let's keep the kids involved. We always dragged our kids to most of the car shows and they hung out and helped in the garage when they were little and now both are still interested in Old Cars and Car Shows in general. Andrew , bring me my safety glasses while working on my 49 Chevy Truck around 1992. Andrew supervising the incoming project with the 37 Buick in the background. Andrew hard at work changing spark plugs at Last Chance Campout in Welland around 1994 Andrew and Michelle holding Holley checking out our new 57 Suburban in the fall of 1995. Holley making an adjustment on Drew's Rambler Holley in front of our 55 Nomad with the 57 suburban in the background.
What's Old November 2023
For my Birthday I got a book on Route 66 and it took me back to our trip along the famous highway and a stop in Kingman at Mr D's Diner. Route 66 between Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon is definitely worthy of checking out. Even though it wasn't that long ago here are some pictures from that trip. Projects: love them, hate them, can't live without them. We thought we would take a look back at a few of the projects that have come through our shop over the years. 1928 Model A Ford. One of the few Fords to ever make it on the yard. this was our first "old school" Hot Rod with the traditional dropped axle, 4 bars front and rear, 283 , 9" Ford rear. Like many of our projects they get sold before they get finished. Early 50's Studebaker Truck - worked on this one with a friend, Camaro Clip slipped right into the stock frame for a great stance, big block Chevy engine, NOS fenders. Unfortunately it was lost in a garage fire - not mine - before it was finished. Holley , more than 20 years ago in front of a 55 Nomad I found at Waterdown swap meet years ago. You know the little pictures people have taped to the side of their trailer - this was in one of those and was destined to be a " monster truck" going on a 4x4 chassis when I "saved" it. We had it a little while and ended up trading it for our first Nova wagon. I never heard of it again but would interested if anyone knows what happened to it. This is our 2nd 63 Nova which we brought back from Iowa but was originally from Phoenix Arizona. While we never really finished this car we did drive the wheels off it. When we started the business we had 3 totes full of Nova parts and a very small folding table we took to swap meets. Eventually we out grew it and moved up to our 69 Suburban. We have kept contact with this car since we sold it. It has had major upgrades and was the inspiration for the Nova wagon in Netflix's Umbrella Acadamy or so we have been told. Our 69 Suburban came from one of the better suburbs of lower Chicago and going to get it was an adventure for another story - ask Holley. -It took me a couple of years to get it "done" and on the road but it served us well for many years before we replaced it with the 83 Suburban. It was built to tow a race car by the previous owner and it pulled strong and was a joy to drive. 1957 Suburban #2 - we had one previously that I got talked out of. this one came from Texas a long time ago and will hopefully be our swap meet truck someday - unless some one talks me out of this one too. 1956 Pontiac Safari 2 door hardtop wagon - like the Nomad but Pontiac. We actually bought this one to resell but the longer it hangs around the more I dream of building it. It would be a really cool delivery vehicle , great cruiser or I have even planned it as a gasser. It is for sale or interesting trade. Projects - past and present - just a taste. thanks, Dave |
