I watch pricing trends all the time but once in a while one hits home with me. I bought my 49 Chevy pickup over 20 years ago, running and driving. It is a rust free truck from Oklahoma and was/ is in pretty nice shape.
Today we come across a basket case truck project of the same era for the same kind of money mine cost all those years ago. Here is the kicker - it looks like a fair deal considering what these trucks are going for. 1951 Chevrolet truck Most people are familiar with the famous Willys gassers of the early 30's and 37-41. Famous drag racers turned economy cars into legends. This 1955 Willys Bermuda is relatively unknown, overshadowed by its cousin the Henry J. This Bermuda 2 door hardtop was a beautiful car in its day and this one could be restored to its former glory or modified to make a great driver. I have seen a couple turned into drag cars as well.
I love ebay because if you follow it it shows what stuff actually sells for.
I hate ebay because you never know what the selling price will be until it is over. I have learned to search with parameters that usually don't waste my time and emotion too much. It is difficult when people list starting bids so low that you know that they should have added another zero and not got you all excited . Today we have a solid 54 Chevrolet Bel Air rag top. As I write this blog the price is $1000. reserve not met. If $1000 would buy it I would take all the kids Christmas money and go buy it. I hear Wisconsin is nice this time of year. We will watch for a few days and see how it ends up. I would rather have a 67-72 Blazer or Jimmy but the International Scout would be a good second choice. Their driveline is solid and the styling is unique. If we get a snowy winter the 4x4 would be handy.
1975 International Scout I was checking prices on old Buick parts earlier and came across this 1949 Buick Super ragtop for sale. The ragtop is the big money car and I would love to add it to my collection. The style is amazing and the driveline is impressive . 1949 Buick Ragtop
Thinking street rod project today - what could be cooler than a 1932 Ford pickup? Some of the hard work is done - seems to sit right -sure would be nice. Wish there was a price so I knew if I could even afford dreaming about it. 1932 Ford truck
Can you still call it a longroof if it is this short?
Crosley tin Woody . Crosley is more famous for their refrigerators and radios than cars but that only makes them more cool. I have been researching electric cars lately and this would be a neat platform for an electric car conversion. I haven't got all the details together- maybe a forklift donor, a bunch of batteries, some faux woodgrain, indigo blue paint...Gotta get one of those solar panels so I can recharge for free. Once in a while I come across a unique vehicle that catches my eye.
The Volvo P1800 is a car with lots of style and performance potential. One of my high school teachers drove one and a friend of mine "restored" one a few years ago - it looked stock but he made a bunch of performance improvements. He said it was one of the most fun cars he had driven. This one for sale is a major project but well worth the price if you have the skills and the nerve. Myself being a longroof fan would love a P1800ES also known as Snow White's Coffin There used to be hundreds of companies manufacturing cars in the teens, twenties and early thirties. They had cool names too. Today we look at a 1923 STAR . It looks like there is enough there to make a car - who knows how hard it would be to find parts. It would be unusual - at least around here and looks like it would be neat to drive.
Some nights I do a little research while or after I blog - tonight I found out that several of my recent blogs are unknowingly connected. STARs were built by Durant who also built the Rugby. here is the link : STAR [ automobile] Once again the best deal in a while is far away and needs two trips to get everything home. I have always liked these cars and would love to build one and I have done well parting them out before. This deal you can do both - keep the best parts for the one you build and sell the parts off the other one. The last one I had it was suggested that I build a Nascar tribute car and that would be real cool or just a cool driver would be good as well.
